CNN —Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry was left lamenting “self-inflicted wounds” after Draymond Green received his fourth ejection of the season during the team’s 101-93 victory over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. Green’s ejection came less than four minutes into the game after he received two technical fouls for disputing two separate foul calls. Green also a received a suspension during last season’s playoffs after stamping on the chest of Sacramento Kings big man Domantas Sabonis. Green was also left off Team USA’s Olympic roster due to his suspensions. Curry was visibly frustrated following Green’s latest ejection, shaking his head and covering his face with his jersey.

As he moved to touch his father, Kerr felt a hand on his shoulder. A priest had followed him into the hospital room and was now leading him away, telling him his father was delusional. His father wasn’t delusional, he believes. It would be more than 40 years before Kerr felt compelled to speak about that evening in the hospital room. He had followed his father, and three generations before him, into medicine and was working at Hospice & Palliative Care Buffalo, where he was the chief medical officer and conducted research on end-of-life visions.

We need funding in our development. We need funding in our grassroots. We need funding. “I don’t think anything fazes us,” said midfielder Ella Toone, who scored England’s first goal before halftime. In their early matches, the Lionesses relied on strong defense and Earps’s steady goalkeeping as they struggled to score. Bronze referred back to England’s 2-1 quarterfinal win against Colombia, when the Lionesses fell into an early deficit in front of another crowd that also heavily favored their opponent. The carnal release inside the stadium after Kerr’s goal was at a different level. The only way through, England knew, was to stick to the game plan, and hold its nerve.

As one of the co-hosts, this year’s Women’s World Cup was supposed to be the culmination of all this change; a celebration of Australia’s most beloved team. A shaky 1-0 win against Ireland kicked off the Matildas’ tournament before disaster struck once more and they succumbed to a shock 3-2 defeat against Nigeria. That 2015 run marked the Matildas’ best World Cup performance to date, after appearing in every edition since 1995. The assembled 75,784 fans represented a record crowd for a women’s soccer match in the country and the highest attendance at a Women’s World Cup for 24 years, according to FIFA. “It’s definitely transcended the traditional women’s community and so that’s really exciting.”Australia has played its part in making this the biggest Women’s World Cup in history.

Image Sam Kerr has missed Australia’s first two games at the World Cup. Kerr, who had carried her nation’s hopes on her shoulders entering the tournament, was stunningly ruled out of Australia’s first two games only an hour before its World Cup opener last week. On Saturday, she revealed that she had returned to training ahead of the Canada game, telling reporters in Brisbane that she’s “definitely going to be available” for the match in Melbourne. “The plan has always been the same — miss the first two games and then reassess,” Kerr said. Yet despite Kerr’s positive update, the extent of her availability for the Canada game remains unclear.

CNN —Australia striker Sam Kerr, who is the face of this Women’s World Cup, will miss the opening two matches of the tournament after sustaining a calf injury in training. One of the world’s best players, Kerr’s absence is a huge blow to the Matildas who played the Republic of Ireland in their opening World Cup game on Thursday. Kerr racked up five goals in four matches at the 2019 World Cup, including four goals against Jamaica in the group stage. The 2023 edition represents her fourth World Cup, having debuted at the showpiece event in Germany in 2011 as a 17-year-old. Manchester City striker Mary Fowler, who scored the winner in a friendly against France last week, started in Kerr’s place.

Sam Kerr’s tone barely shifted. She had not, she said, had time to think about it yet. She had other things on which to focus her attention. Westminster Abbey, to act as Australia’s flag-bearer at the coronation of King Charles III. Of course, she said, she was conscious that being handpicked by Australia’s prime minister to carry her country’s flag at the coronation was an “amazing, amazing honor.” It would, she acknowledged, probably be the sort of thing she would “tell my kids about in 10 or 15 years.”
